Paco “The Wonder Dog”

The Angel Fund began in 2011 with Paco, a little Chihuahua lovingly known as “The Wonder Dog.” Paco was caught in a tornado that destroyed his family’s home. His crate was lifted into the air and thrown, leaving him with a broken leg that required two surgeries, metal plating, and overnight stays at Virginia Tech.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, over $1,000 was raised to help cover Paco’s medical care so his family could focus on rebuilding their lives. Paco’s story became the inspiration for what would later grow into the Angel Fund, a lasting way to help pets and families in times of crisis.

Pet Oxygen Masks for First Responders

In 2017, the Angel Fund grew beyond helping individual pets and families when it supplied Pulaski and Montgomery County Fire/EMS stations with pet oxygen masks. These masks, now carried by area rescue and fire departments, allow first responders to provide life-saving care to pets rescued from house fires and other emergencies.

The story of this project was even featured by WDBJ7, highlighting how the Angel Fund had grown to touch more lives than originally imagined.

Nyvean’s Recovery

Nyvean was attacked by another dog in his neighborhood, leaving him with a broken leg and deep puncture wounds. He visited us regularly for wound care and bandage changes, receiving the medical attention he needed to heal safely and comfortably.

Thanks to support from the Angel Fund, Nyvean’s family was able to focus on helping him recover without the added stress of unexpected medical expenses.

Banana and Her Kittens

A Good Samaritan found a distressed momma cat running around her barn and brought her and her kittens to us for help. During her exam, Dr. Hansen discovered the mother had a prolapsed uterus, a life-threatening condition that required emergency surgery. Unfortunately, the Good Samaritan couldn’t afford treatment or care for all the kittens, leaving the little family in a tough spot. That’s when one of our amazing team members stepped up, offering to foster the mom and her three kittens so they’d have a fighting chance. The mother, now named Banana, recovered well from surgery, while her babies—Bindi, Peaches, and Rick Catt Damon—were bottle-fed and nurtured back to health.

Thanks to the Angel Fund, this sweet family got the lifesaving care and support they needed.

A Second Chance for a Little Fighter

This sweet patient came to us with two broken femurs and an owner unable to provide the care she needed. Thankfully, the veterinary community rallied together—multiple clinics and veterinarians worked hand in hand to give her the best chance at recovery.

With help from our Angel Fund, Radford Animal Hospital was able to cover her surgery and provide the treatment she desperately needed. Stories like hers remind us why we do what we do: to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves.

Bean’s Road to Recovery

Bean came to us with serious injuries after a traumatic incident, leaving him with painful wounds and in need of urgent care. Thanks to the skill and dedication of our veterinary team, he received the treatment he needed to begin healing and get back on his feet.

With support from the Angel Fund, Bean’s recovery was possible without financial strain, giving him a well-deserved second chance at a healthy, happy life.

Mac and Fancy Sue

Fancy, an abandoned Walker Coonhound, was taken in by compassionate rescuers just two weeks before giving birth. She was so emaciated that no one even realized she was pregnant. Despite battling intestinal parasites and kidney failure, Fancy surprised her rescuers one day with a tiny ball of fluff they named Mac.

Sadly, her health struggles meant the rest of her puppies couldn’t be delivered safely, and an emergency cesarean was required to save her life. Thanks to the Angel Fund, Fancy received the urgent medical care she desperately needed, giving Mac and his brave mom a fighting chance at life.

Roadside Rescue

This tiny baby was rescued from the side of the road by compassionate good samaritans. Sadly, he arrived with devastating injuries, requiring immediate medical attention, but with the help of our Angel Fund he was able to get the care he needed.
