How is Pet Surgery Performed at the Redford Animal Hospital?
At the Radford Animal Hospital, we take a lot of pride in the services we provide to our patients. One of the most important services we provide is pet surgery. Our veterinarian team has a tremendous amount of experience when it comes to pet surgical procedures. We take great honor in leveraging these skills for the benefit of our patients. Dr. Carol Hasen is highly trained in a variety of operations. We know that many families are nervous when they hear their pet is going to require surgery. That is why we are here to help.
How We Decide a Pet Needs Surgery
We would like our families to know that we do not recommend surgery to any pet unless we think it is absolutely necessary. Before we decide on a surgical approach, we will review all of the other treatment options with our families. These might include medical therapies, physical therapy, and even palliative care. We want our families to have access to all of the information before they decide. If the best path forward is surgery, then we will recommend this. At the same time, the final decision is yours. We are simply here to guide you. If you have reservations, we want to hear them. We are here to answer questions.
The Day of the Operation
If surgery is the way to go, then we will schedule a date. Sometimes, the surgery will be handled on an emergent basis. Other surgeries might be able to wait a day or longer. On the day of the operation, the pet will be taken back to the operating room. We will use medicine to place the pet to sleep for the duration of the procedure. Then, our trained team will carry out the operation. At the end of the procedure, the pet will be taken to our recovery area. There, he or she will wake up in a comfortable environment. We will keep you updated every step of the way. Typically, follow-up appointments are needed to make sure the recovery process is going smoothly. We promise to take good care of your loved one from start to finish.
